news/announcements/whatever
Hi!
This seems like as good a place as any to post things like this:
1. Daniel Borzutzky sent out a big email about a wonderful-looking event at UIC: Cecilia Vicuna!!!! (and other cools, like Susan Briante!) -->
UIC, F Apr 12: Event Registration Form (aidaform.com)
(It's free, as far as I can tell! I registered with no problem.)
We are especially honored to host artist, poet, and performer Cecilia Vicuña, who in the past few years has received a lifetime achievement award from the Venice Biennale, and had solo shows at the Guggenheim and Tate Museums. Our other esteemed guests include Roque Raquel Salas Rivera (Latino Book Award for poetry, and Puerto Rican Literature Project); Susan Briante (Poet, Essayist, Pegasus Award for Poetry Criticism); Farid Matuk (Poet, Translator, Anna Rabinowitz Award); and Giancarlo Huapaya (Poet, Translator, Director, Cardboard House Press).
2. I am very excited to say that Meekling Press will publish my poetry novel Gwenda, Rodney in October! I love their books, which include Anne Yoder's The Enhancers, Jay Besemer's Men & Sleep, and several others that I adore (but, LOL, Anne and Jay are "on" this blog, so to speak).
3. Another person "on" here is Jessica Johnson, whose memoir, Mettlework, will come out this Spring.
4. I have only read (so far) her book The Dyzgraphxst (it's fucking great)--Canisia Lubrin's new project, fiction, Code Noir, is out and her interview with David Naimon is also great: Canisia Lubrin : Code Noir - Tin House
5. Here's a poem I saw recently and like (tr. from the Chinese--not sure Cantonese/Mandarin/maybe someone on here knows more!).
Yáng Wǎn
(Translated from the Chinese by Carolanna Lisonbee)

yay! glad you finally made your meekling announcement! ✨💚
ReplyDeleteAll: Laura Ellen Joyce (shiver-inducing poet and theorist) shouts out the blog in her latest newsletter (and you should sign up for it/check out her info: https://lauraellenjoyce.co.uk/newsletter // https://lauraellenjoyce.co.uk/books ).
ReplyDeleteChicagoans on this blog: I think in a couple weeks Loulou and I (maybe Phil if he isn't buried in grading!) will visit this place I've never been: The Chicago Maritime Museum to see the paintings of "James Bolivar Needham, a former Great Lakes deckhand whose parents may have traveled the Underground Railroad . . . known for his impressionistic plein air paintings of Chicago's waterways." https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=a62499659915de61&q=James+Bolivar+Needham&tbm=isch&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjKlruK4PmEAxVGGtAFHSezBhYQ0pQJegQIDhAB&biw=1232&bih=598&dpr=1.5
ReplyDeleteOlivia! Huge congratulations on the new book---I'm beyond excited. I cannot wait to get my grubby paws/eye rays/micro-organisms all over it. Excited about your trip to the Maritime Museum too...I didn't know that place existed. Have fun xo
DeleteI need to eventually update the links on the side, but am going to plug in here things that should get situated more permanently:
