Amanda Goldblatt sent this to me--Poetics of the Event Event
Dear all,
I wanted to formally invite you all to The Poetics of the Event Event on Thursday May 14th. There is a full schedule and registration form available HERE.
This will be a full-day event — you're welcome to pop by or stay the whole time — with a range of wonderful poets and thinkers joining us to share their work, knowledge, and art.
There will be an "UnRoundtable" with Daniel Borzutzky, Joss Barton, Ali Gali, Helene Achanzar, among a group of wonderful others; a special performance and workshop with Kay Gabriel; a community zine library and prompted-activity sponsored by the Workshop in Trans Studies; a fashion show poetry event organized by Kai Ihns and S. Yarberry. + MORE!!
There will be FREE food and drink throughout the day (breakfast/lunch/dinner).
Registration is simple, and the RSVP-ing does really help with planning; however, it is not required (though, appreciated!!).
Tell your friends, students, poets, colleagues, etc.
In head & heart,
S.
The Poetics of the Event Event
Thursday May 14th
Northwestern University
Kaplan Seminar Room (Kresge 2351)
10:00am - 6:30pm
Register: HERE.
What is the event of literature? From poetry readings to roundtables, book launches to broadsides, the literary arts have always been invested in bringing the page to the public. However, as much as literature itself has been, and continues to be, a site of experimentation and transformation, the structures of the events that are designed to hold them ("the poetry reading," "the panel," "the roundtable") have remained remarkably unchanged. How do we bring community interests and response back into the centerfold of the literary arts?
Poetics of the Event Event will invite publishers and printers, writers and scholars, artists and community organizers to consider how we might approach the literary event itself as imaginatively as we do the books, poems, novels, pamphlets that these events are meant to celebrate.
You can see the full schedule and register for the entire day or individual sessions using the link HERE. The event is free and open to all. Please contact Smith at syarberry@u.northwestern.
We hope you'll join us on Thursday May 14th for a day of events:
