hi co-conspirators, for the past five years, i've been teaching online classes as a way to make space and time for thinking and writing with other kindreds around the world. we gather in zoom rooms for a few weeks and devote ourselves to becoming obsessed with a subject—sex, doom, death, clothing, the stars—and, in turn, our own practices. what began as temporary gatherings outside the pressures of capitalism and its institutions has slowly become a grimoire of living, cunning knowledge: an archive of lectures, writing prompts, readings, vibes, ideas, and very cool conversations. i've finally begun making some of them available in recorded form so they might continue finding new afterlives. i originally offered these classes at sliding scale, and this stays for the recordings.
i'll continue teaching classes and workshops (one in june below!), and these will find their way to the archive over time, but today, still riding the venus-jupiter conjunction, let me share the first of the coven: ✶ THE ARCHIVE currently, it contains: ✶ Fuck Writing on writing sex. this was fun! also: chaotic, funny, serious, perverse, rigorous, political. ✶ After, Under, and Through: A Writing Class in the Apocalypse a writing class for the end times—working with the ouroboros of endings and beginnings, malingering as aesthetics, and the stubborn insistence that, despite determinism, we can "make time" for and with each other.
✶ Writing with the Zodiac (Parts I & II) a series of classes that excavate the 12 zodiac signs as tools for writing, using them as myth, ambiance, character arcs, and symbols. parts I and II are available now. part III (libra, scorpio, sagittarius) coming this fall. ⁂ ⁂ ⁂ there is also an upcoming zoom room that i'd love to share with you: ✶ The Erotics of Thinking: Essay as Desire, Inquiry, and Form saturday, june 20, 2-5pm PT / 5-8pm ET / 10pm–1am UK this is a workshop on essay writing that reaches for my favorite thing: the work of building an erotic relationship to meaning itself. three hours on zoom. it would be lovely to have you there synchronously, in all the mess and contingency of being alive together. if you can't make it, a recording will be added to the archive a few weeks later.
⁂ thank you, as always, for reading, listening, bringing your unruly presence(s), and finding one another here. i remain convinced that one of the best uses of the internet is to gather beautiful weirdos in a room to make difficult, wonderful work that turns everyone on. until the next vigil, xjh |
